1. Overview

Screenshot Translator (“the Extension”) is developed by an independent developer. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information. By using the Extension, you agree to the practices described here.

2. What the Extension Does

Screenshot Translator allows you to capture regions of your screen, extract text from those images using optical character recognition (OCR), and translate that text between languages. To use certain features, you must create an account.

3. Data We Collect

Account Data

Email address, collected when you register for an account.

Usage Data

Translation usage counts, used to manage subscription limits and improve the service.

User Content

Words you save to your personal dictionary within the Extension.

Locally Stored Data

Extension settings and preferences are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s built-in storage and never transmitted to our servers.

We do not collect the content of screenshots or translated text beyond what is necessary to process your request in real time. That content is not stored or logged.

4. How We Use Your Data

To authenticate your account and manage your subscription.
To track usage against your plan limits.
To store your saved dictionary words for retrieval across sessions.
To process payments for paid plans.

We do not sell your data to third parties under any circumstances.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension relies on the following third-party services to function. Each has its own privacy policy.

When you perform a translation, the selected screen region is sent to OCR.space for text extraction, and the resulting text is sent to Google Cloud Translation API for translation. These transmissions occur over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.

6. Data Storage and Security

Cloud storage: Your account data, usage counts, and saved dictionary words are stored in Supabase, hosted on secure cloud infrastructure.
Local storage: Extension settings are stored locally in Chrome and remain on your device.
We use industry-standard practices, including encrypted connections and secure authentication, to protect your data.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data — including your email address, usage history, and saved dictionary words — will be permanently deleted from our systems.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate data associated with your account.
Delete your account and all associated data at any time.
Export your saved dictionary data upon request.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document.
